I though it'd be a good idea for people to post what summer programs that they are considering applying to for the summer of 2006. I'm a Junior('07) and I'm thinking of RSI and TASP right now. How hard is it to be accepted into those programs? I know RSI is insanely though but not sure about TASP which is also probably difficult. Also, I've received some information about a Congressional Page Program. Sorry, this is my asian side coming through, but I was just wondering which of these programs would look most prestigious for college admissions? All three of these look insanely fascinating though. Hopefully, I'l get accepted to something.

RSI and TASP are the top rising senior summer programs in their respective fields. RSI is for the math/science types and TASP is for the humanities/social science types. I guess RSI is a little bit more prestigious, but both carry a lot of weight in college admissions. The common sentiment is that RSI'ers can get into pretty much any college they want upon graduation from the RSI program.

Both are insanely selective (I think their acceptance rates are lower than those of schools like Harvard, MIT, etc), but that doesn't mean you shouldn't apply if you're interested. Just be warned that both are extremely intensive programs, with a lot of work involved, not just in the application process but also once you get into the program.

I actually haven't heard of a formal Congressional Page Program, so I can't help you with that one. I would guess that RSI and TASP are probably more prestigious, though.

Whoo 007!

I'm applying to...
1) NJ Gov School
2) RSI
3) TASP
4) NJ Scholars Program

Hm. That's all for now.

Has anyone actually been to NJSP? It's so... unique lol. It looks extremely rewarding, though.

So if I were to, for example, apply to 4 summer programs and get into all of them, would there be (in general) a penalty for deciding not to go to the other three? Is there generally a downpayment or something that you lose?

(I'm thinking of applying to the Brown summer program)

Depends on the program. For instance, in my case, only Gov School is binding, so I'm still allowed to apply for RSI, TASP, and NJSP, which aren't.

I'm not sure whether something like Brown's program would be binding or not. But if you get in and decide not to go, it wouldn't look too good in the future IMO.

bump.....................

I'm going to Australia just to see more of the world. Hoping to take a lot of pictures and make a book.

Any '08ers? I'm still trying to decide what to apply to (and looking for more of what's available) so seeing what others are shooting for would be nice/helpful.

Hey I'm an '08! lol...but I am in the same situation as you: I don't know which programs to apply to. I am in the top of my class and have excellent extra curricular activities but I still don't think I would stack for programs such as RSI and TASP come senior year. Anyone have any good summer programs for sophomores? Thanks!

how hard is it to get into TASPs?

are there any other similar programs that aren't so intense?

if you're into political activism, community leadership, and gay rights awareness, there's also this teen leadership summit in the summer, they pick about 50 kids from around the US, for a week, completely free, on how you can promote gay rights awareness in your community and start a gay-straight alliance and good stuff like that. i unfortunately regret to say i couldn't attend last year because of conflicting schedule, but it sounds like a great teen leadership and activist program..
I'm applying to MITES, NIH Summer Internship in Biomedical Research, MAYBE the one at Boston U. (the internship), and all the others are local (like hospitals)

I'm currently a junior

I'm def applying to RSI this year... have you seen their application... insane questions... and this alumni from RSI told me that she spent more time on her RSI app than on her app to Harvard... imagine that!

RSI, SSP

Are there any other cool math/science ones?

PROMYS and ROSS
