I’m a current student at UA. I also heard of these opportunities, and had planned on applying, before I realized there was a conflict in the program dates and UA’s Fall semester 2013 (both Caltech programs end August 23rd whereas classes at UA begin August 21st).

For the Amgen program, at least, Caltech has stated it makes no exceptions and that all participants must be able to comply with the given program dates. I wouldn’t assume any more leeway for the MURF program.

However, I have also heard of possibly starting school a couple of days late. This was actually something mentioned for a CS program last summer, sent out in an email to CS majors I believe. So I was wondering if you think the same sort of exception might be made for an REU/summer research program?
