Does anyone know whether doing research overseas a plus for grad school application?

My aunt's husband who works in Asia now has some sort of connection which can find me a undergrad research position at one of the top schools in China(Mainland) or HongKong or Taiwan. I don't know where exactly though. Will this help for grad school app process? Any thoughts?

Why u want to do research overseas? I mean Berkeley is a perfect place for research if you want a big plus in your grad school application. The combined reputation and quality of profs of top 10 schools in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are not match for Berkeley, at least in a majority of the fields.

it’s becuz my cousin is getting married this summer in taiwan, and my aunt kindly offered me to stay at her place during the summer. And i wanna go traaveling around in asia as well. Summer is like three months lonng, while I’am there and my aunt jusst thought it’s a good idea to conduct a short research as well, not waisting 3 months doing nth.

some of my frds say it’s an opportunity to go out, but some say not worth it, cuz grad school dun really look at research conducted overseas. that’s why i wanna hear more opinions from you guys.

I say go for it… if you’re going to be doing nothing over the summer anyway, some experience is better than no experience. True, research experience in China may not be equivalent to the stuff done here, but it still counts as experience - and may even help you get in labs while you’re here in berkeley. If nothing, do it for the learning experience :).
