I was wondering what people thought about summer rotations. Have any of your done these? If you had, do you think it was worthwhile? If you hadn't done a summer rotation, do you wish you had? Are any of you planning to do a summer rotation this summer? Any thoughts for feedback would be appreciated.

I won’t be doing a summer rotation because I need to save up some more money before moving, but wish I had the option. If you have a lab in mind that you’re excited to get working in, I’d highly recommend it since you won’t be distracted by beginning classes and all the orientations, etc. My fall rotation PI told me my desired rotation project is rather ambitious because of all that.

On the other hand, for people going straight from undergrad, having a break is probably quite desirable.

Im in the same boat as EvoViro, and would absolutely get in on summer rotations if it weren’t for the paying-off-debt-and-saving thing.
And my PI said the exact same thing- that it is much more desirable to begin in the summer, to reduce the stress level of learning a new project during the fall. You could go in with a leg up.
