@WhyBlackHoles I am 100% sure they don’t care about geographic distributions. You being in Montana won’t affect you in anyways.
Does anyone know how many people applied for Biochem this year?
Also the acceptance rate for the biochem program is around 5% right? (basing this on @ScreenNamee17’s post above)
@sciGirl123 we probably won’t know how many applicants for Biochem this year are until Mid April when the results are announced. IIRC on this thread or somewhere, someone mentioned total 1100 students applied, and 108 will be admitted in 3 programs this year.
hey i was looking at the ssp website again and it says “in Astrophysics – near-earth asteroid imaging and orbit determination – or (new in 2017)”, does anyone know what the “new in 2017” means?
@coronaa The “new in 2017” is for biochemistry. Last year (2017) was the first year of that program.
All this waiting is actually driving me insane. I still can’t believe we have like 2 more weeks to wait until we know our acceptances/rejection. I really hope I get accepted into the biochem program
Are you a junior? My son applied to BioChemistry as well.
The good thing is they increase the class size of biochem to 36 this year. good luck to everyone.
did more ppl apply this year to biochem than astrophysics? lol
seems like a lot did biochem; i applied to astrophysics but i’m a sophomore. waiting is so stressful
i’m guessing decisions will come out on the 9th
Also there are 2 astrophysics programs as compared to one biochemistry, am I right? So, the students’ ratio will be twice in astrophysics than biochem
Does anyone know specific date that we will hear back?? I got accepted to another program, and I need to make my deposit by April 11th… SSP would honestly be my first choice though.
@SebaRaj Yes, I am a junior.
@primeprime11 I am pretty sure a fair amount applied to biochem but it’s probably less than astrophysics.
@mombay Yeah, it’s safe to assume that students that applied to astrophysics will have a higher chance of getting into ssp compared to that of biochem.
@dsfjlciodsfljk They released their decisions on April 11th last year so I would assume that they would probably release it this year around April 10-12th.
I think a lot of programs release results earlier to those who got in, so hopefully you’ll know by the 11th @dsfjlciodsfljk
soo what are yall’s backup programs in the case that you don’t get to go to ssp? although i’m sure you guys are really smart and will have no problem lol
I just got into Bronfman, but I need to commit to going by April 5th, which is probably way before SSP decisions come out. Long shot that I’d get in any way so I’m not worried about giving up a spot. I’m super happy with Bronfman!
@Galileyom I suggest you notify Bronfman that you are waiting on a decision from another summer program and are unable to make a decision before April 5th and see if they will be lenient and let you commit after you hear back from SSP.
Congrats and good luck!
Congratulations. What is Bronfman? Could you please give a link here?
Bronfman isn’t a science program, it’s a Jewish fellowship that starts with an all expenses paid 5 week trip to Israel. Here’s the website: http://www.bronfman.org/
ohh that sounds great! congrats man
