Summer Science Program (SSP) 2010

I got in! NM

Dear quicksilverblitz,

Today I emailed admit/deny admissions decisions to most of the applicants for SSP 2010. However, the Admissions Committee has decided to defer decisions on some applications, including yours. They want to take another week or so to consider these applications. Next week I will send your updated status.

I know waiting can be frustrating, but please be patient.

Meanwhile, let me know if you have already made other summer plans. It is not necessary to send any additional material to supplement your application, unless I request it specifically.

Best regards,
Richard Bowdon SSP '74
Executive Director

To xx
Dear xx,

Congratulations! The SSP Admissions Committee has accepted your application to the 52nd annual Summer Science Program, at the NM campus.

We received 531 applications from excellent students around the world, insuring that your 35 SSP colleagues will be just as bright and interesting as you are. The opportunity to work closely with them - and our seven faculty - for six weeks will be an unforgettable and exhilarating experience.

I got the delayed notification thing as well.
I guess there’s still hope. :).

did they send out denials too or just acceptances and deferred

Have no idea…
Thanks to Mr.Bowdon to end all the pains!!! :)

any one else not get an email?

Uh-oh…I haven’t gotten one yet. This sounds like a bad thing.

Nice, congrats to everyone who got in, and good luck to everyone “deferred”! Make a facebook group, so I can join! :)

keep fingers crossed…

I got an email:

I’m guessing they just need more time to read through applications, so if you didn’t get a response yet, I’m sure it’ll come soon.

To swashthebuckler

Dear swashthebuckler,

Thank you very much for your application to the Summer Science Program. We regret that we will not be able to offer you a place in SSP 2010. Applications to SSP have grown significantly in recent years, while enrollment has remained capped at 72 since 2003. Just this year, applications increased 69% to 531, dropping our admission rate well below 20%.

Since you are an excellent student, you may wonder why you were not admitted, or what you could have done differently in your application. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to offer any personal feedback to applicants, for several reasons. But remember that admissions is an inherently subjective process, especially in a situation like this where there are several highly qualified applicants for each opening. I will mail a letter containing some general guidelines that may help in your college admissions.

We appreciate that you made a significant effort to prepare your application. Although this outcome may be disappointing for you, we strongly encourage you to continue your scientific studies this summer and beyond.

Best regards,
Richard D. Bowdon
Executive Director

Disappointed, but upon reflection I realize that my essays were shoddy :S. Congratulations to everyone that got in, and good luck to all deferees!

Well, I didn’t get in.

Besides the fact that I’m incredibly disappointed because the program looks so amazing, as far as self-esteem goes, I’m okay because the applications went up to 531, which is crazy.
Gah, I just really wanted this so bad, I guess all of you know how that is.
Well, congrats to those of you who are going!
Goodbye to this thread…

Congrats everyone!!! Get pumped.

Man, ever since I got that email, I’m so nervous…

still no email :(((((

I got in!! I completed the acceptance survey within half a minute of receiving the email.
