SSP Acceptance??

i was just wondering if anyone else got accepted into the SSP program. does anyone know if it is worthwhile or like the same caliber as TASP or RSI or is it just one of those programs where if u can pay the tuition, anybody can attend? thanks.

Are you talking about the Harvard one? Yeah, I just got accepted. It is worthwhile from all I can gather, but it doesn't really help that much in admissions and its definitely not the same caliber as TASP or RSI (but I can't do TASP yet so I guess I'll do this). It is slightly selective, but yeah, it is pretty much if you pay you get in. The college creds do help a bit though.

It sounds like fun to me but if you're a rising senior then yeah, you might want to spend your most important summer doing something more prestigious.

sorry i meant the summer science program at ojai california for physics, its not affliated with harvard or any major university

have the acceptances already started coming out? huh... does it mean anything if you haven't gotten one yet?

only emails from richard bowden got mine this afternoon

bumpbumpbump

Yeah -- got it yesterday.

SSP is quite a worth while program. It is very selective, more then most. (About a 30% acceptence rate). Considering that the pool who applies to this program (which is very strong), it is tough to get in. It is a great program that is quite prestigous (funded by caltech). My older brother did this and he loved the experience.

I applied too...what did you all write on your short essay's? mine sucked!

it is definately worthwhile! i went last summer and it was the best 6 weeks of my life.

I applied myself, and haven't gotten my letter yet. I'm a sophomore, so its a little bit harder for me to get in. I hope that they don't send all the letters of acceptence first, but send them in slews as they go through each application. Has anyone gotten letters of rejection? Or do they do those after all the accepted people?

I sent mine in on the 24th, still waiting for my e-mail/letter

yea the people you'll meet at ssp are plenty smart
its definetely not just a program that you can buy your way into

I applied last year as a sophomore and very nearly got in, but was rejected on the basis of my calculus scores.

This program (in terms of acceptance) definately favors juniors (since I didn't do anything significant since last year and still got in this year).

I applied as a sophmore last year....but got rejected (no calc, no physics, etc, only ap chem)
Well, i applied this year....and since acceptances started going out, im expecting for my rejection to arrive pretty soon (i have REALLY bad stats :( )
good luck to all!

I applied as a sophomore. It is clearly a junior preference program because they deferred me. I can guarantee you my stats were not stellar. In my opinion, the teacehr recommendations and essay could for a lot more. I mean with a <180 PSAT and AP chem and AP stats, not many people would accept/even look at me. Be as optimistic. Miracles do happen. I got into SHARP as a sophomore. The only thing you can help at this point is making your essays phenomenal (if you are a procrastinator like me who still needs to send in the application). I think you should do all optional essays. Be true to yourself when doing your application. In other words, do not BS. Show that you are interested in science. I mean I wrote I swabbed bathroom doors for bacteria culturing. Apparently they like that. That was the only research I had ever done (8th grade) but I liked it and they saw that i was umm a bit obsessed.

Yes, I got accepted and assigned to the Socorro, New Mexico campus. In 2004, 6/36 students were sophomores. Now that SSP is getting more press, it has severely cut down on sophomore acceptance, probably copying RSI. Originally, there was only one campus. Since the program is in greater demand, the NMT campus opened in 2003. Most of this info comes from a former SSP student.

I wrote my essays a few days prior to the deadline so they were not great. I hoped I would stand out enough so that I could surpass this junior/sophomore discrimination ordeal. If a sophomore is better than a junior, more power and acceptance to him or her.

See you Socorro people on June 18.

Hey, if I have not gotten my letter of acceptence (or any letter for that matter) is it safe to assume that I got rejected? DO they send all letters/emails of acceptences out at once, or progesivly accept people?

bumpedy bump
