I think WestMont campus was SUPPOSED to be what SSP was like, but we (at Socorro) livened things up a bit eh ;)

I still don’t understand quite what that was supposed to be… or why it was (partially) rejected. Oh well.

When I came back to this forum, I was thinking “Ok. Probably nobody’s posted in a couple months, but I’m just going to state the awesomeness of it all…” and find instead…wow so many people have been on here! But, just to fulfill my purpose, THOSE SIX WEEKS WERE AMAZING. Yep. I bet no one can guess who I am :)

Yet, I already have. Do you, by any chance, like flowers?

Oh, wow. I just realized there people have been posting a lot on this thread. Hows everyone doing? We need to set a time for tinychat on the weekends. Any suggestions?

hey guys …which one is better the SSP ([SSP - Summer Science Program](http://www.summerscience.org)) or the Harvard SSP ([Secondary School Program – Harvard Summer School 2011 – Boston/Cambridge](http://www.summer.harvard.edu/programs/ssp/) ) umm…i am really interested in joining one of these, and do tell if there is some scholarship/ aid or smthing ! :

@ Rewant 24,
definately Summer Science Program
Harvard SSP is for rich kids who have nothing to do in the summer, at least that’s what I think. It’s not as prestigious as Summer Science Program.
And Summer Science Program offers need-blind admission and generous financial aid!

I don’t know if you have read a book called Winning the hearts of deans? (I think this is its name or close to)
there is a paragraph about attending one of the college programs like Harvard SSP:

“Once a parent asked Dean Hargadon which activities would be most helpful in getting her son into Princeton: Go to Harvard Summer school, doing community service in Honduras, or teaching English in China. The dean said he should “pump gas”.”

So it pretty much explains why Summer Science Program is better.

umm…ohk…btw
- whats the difference in joining in Santa Barbara, California and Socorro, New Mexico…is there some difference ?
- which one is better santa barbara or socorro?
- do i have to give some essay or something?
- is it difficult to get into?
5)do i need give SAT or smething? and since i am an international student do i have to give
TOEFL? - around what % percent financial aid would i possibly get?!

THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE : do i have choices in the subjects? or its a whole package maths+ astro sc+ phycs etc …

Can u recommend me any other summer program, scholarship/ financial aid based, for an international student, for the subject : biology, bio-technological sciences etc etc or anything with Bio base?! thnk u :)

and no you don’t choose subjects.

I don’t really know about other summer programs, you can look at the “Summer Programs that look good on college application” thread and find some useful information.

haha moodragonx and sexyaznprincess were too easy to guess. cheng left me guessing for a while though. I just discovered this thread after opening the google doc. What’s happening, folks?

i agree 100% that ssp is better than the harvard program , but i have to disagree that harvard is "just for rich kids who have nothing to do in summer ". i havent gone , but i have friends who have gone to harvard and 1. they arent rich kids 2. they actually took very rigorous courses, learned a ton, worked non-stop and got college credit for it. so even though harvard isnt as prestigious, its still a good, rigorous program.
just sayin’.

^ Well I guess they are exceptions.

But unless they got into Harvard the following year, I don’t think it matters.

So for SSP, Math and Science test scores obviously play a role (how significant, I don’t know). I am very good at math but my PSAT does not show this, I got a 64. However, on my AP Calc last year I got a 5. Will this alleviate the damage from the poor PSAT score (I understand that my PSAT score isn’t “awful”, just not near the standard of any math based program).

My guess is that their desire for prior calc knowledge would place a test such as AP calc above PSAT?

Thanks.

@arra95 I think they will see AP Calc above PSAT. But if you are worried, you can choose not to send your PSAT score, just AP would be fine.
