Summer Science Research

I'm planning on applying to the University of Pennsylvania's summer science research program for people in high school. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this or something similar. How selective is this program (or programs like this)? Are they really looking for a lot of things with grades and extracurriculars (worst part of application would probably extracurriculars, since only a sophomore, so I've really had nothing involving leadership yet. I'm in some clubs - most notably marching band and model un - and am hoping to join more later in the year)? Would my 800 on Molecular Biology SAT 2 help me stand out? Any info on this would be great.

why are you applying to just that one program? one of the biggest summer internship programs is the one at the NIH. www.training.nih.gov
pretty competitive tho.

I may apply to others but I'm probably just gonna apply to ones where I can commute (only 45 minutes away from U Penn). U Penn is supposed to be good and is also the most convenient one for me. Thanks for the link.
