Summer self storage Unit

Can anyone recommend a Self Storage place in the Palo Alto area? S is finishing up his freshman year and needs to put stuff in storage for the summer months. I've looked into places but I'm not really sure of their locations. I don't want him going into a bad neighborhood etc. So does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

East Palo Alto is the place that people tend to avoid, but I’ve had friends who stored their belongings there and it wasn’t a problem (the storage compounds are secured). It also tends to be cheaper there, and it’s not as though you’ll be mugged while unloading your car. :stuck_out_tongue: In general, the surrounding areas being bad isn’t the problem (the whole area is relatively gentrified), but rather the distance: how far can he travel? Does he know someone with a car?

Pickup storage, which is more convenient but more expensive (by a few hundred $), is the most popular - the pickup crates typically litter the campus at the beginning/end of the school year. Depending on how much stuff your S has, he could share a pickup crate with someone else and bring the cost down to about as much as the self-storage option.

S is going to rent a car from the Wheelz program on campus.

Dungareedoll, there’s also a place right downtown on High Street next to Whole Foods called The Safe. I haven’t used it myself but I’ve seen other students storing stuff there. Maybe your son can call and compare prices.

they are already full and with a waiting list…Thanks anyway Zenkoan

My son used Dorm2Dorm last year- they will pick up and deliver from your dorm room- it worked out well. Just google it for more info.
