Summer term- Questions

I was just offered admission today to Ucf! But they said I can choose to enroll in the summer term and continue in the fall, and if I declined, I would be denied. So what exactly does this mean? Does this mean I have to go this summer? Or could it be any summer before I graduate? I really need to know, because I'm out of state, and it might be hard to get down there for the summer

If you want to attend UCF, that means you have to attend summer term. If you attend summer term, and don’t fail any of your classes, then you move onto fall. So basically, they’re offering you acceptance into the school, just a term earlier then you wanted. It has to be this upcoming summer. It shouldn’t be too hard to get down there for summer, because I was in the same position you are in now. I am an out of state student, and was accepted for the Summer B Term of 2012 (I’m a Sophomore here, now). I was a 25 hour car ride away from Orlando, but a few days before Summer term started, my father and mother and I got in a car, with all my dorm items, and drove down to Florida. They dropped me off, and I lived in the dorms for six weeks, like all the other students. Then, there was an 11 day gap between the end of summer term, and the start of fall. So I moved out of the dorm, had a friend help me put my stuff in a storage unit, and flew home for those days. Then I flew back down, got everything out of the unit, moved into my dorm (Which I would be staying in the whole year) and you get the rest. Very easy. Summer term was a BLAST, prepared me for college, and I knew the campus like the back of my hand and was much more prepared then the fall students. However, you DO have to complete 9 credits of summer within your four years, so just treat it like you’re getting it done now :)

Alright awesome, when in the summer do you go down? Like early to mid July?

Oh, no, Summer B Term usually starts the 21st of June, give or take a few days! Mine was the 21st, and I got out on August 3rd.

You can take online classes for summer term and not have to be physically on campus.

Yes, you can take online classes, but not when you’re accepted for Summer Term. You have to physically be there.

My sons best friend attended for summer term in 2012 in online classes only. I called the school when my daughter was accepted and as long as she is enrolled for classes for the term she was accepted, it doesn’t matter if she is physically on campus or not.

Oh, thank you for the correction! Turns out the program I was in over Summer of 2012 made it mandatory for students to be on campus, but I guess that was just that specific program! I highly suggest physically attending though, OP, especially as an out of state student. As one myself, it helped TREMENDOUSLY and was one of the best choices I made. You can already get a feel of classes, campus, start on your GPA, and friends, before fall semester even starts. It makes the transition very easy

Alright thank you for all the information. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet, but if I choose to do online courses for the summer, how exactly do I go about that?

Admitted for Summer students register for classes for Summer and Fall terms at Orientation. When the summer schedule becomes available, have a plan in mind for what you want to register for and sign up. Classes may be full so have a back up plan, but a lot of people change their minds and if you cant get in the class you want right away, keep checking back for openings.

What were your GPA and scores when they accepted you and gave you this. Im deferred and probably a long shot to get in and I got this for FIU too. They are making me go to Summer Term if I want to attend for fall.
