Summer term?

If a applicant gets into UMich summer term, when are they done with freshmen year? And in the next year, can they change into Fall term? Is there a better chance of getting into the U if I apply for summer term? Do I have to apply early then?

Is this for transfer...or what?

no it's for freshmen apps

Your wording is slightly confusing, but I'll try to answer everything as you intended.

Summer- 9 credits max
Fall- 18 credits max
Winter- 18 max
Spring- not sure, but probably 9

If you get in during summer, you still have to take fall and winter classes, perhaps just less than you would otherwise.

If you are accepted for summer term, you have to take some summer classes your first year. If you feel like it, you never have to take any summer classes afterwards. For example, being admitted starting summer 2009 does not mean you have to take summer 2010 classes. it just means that you start college in summer 2009.

E.g. admitted for summer term
Freshman summer: classes
fresh Fall: classes
fresh winter: classes
fresh spring: if you want

soph summer: if you want
soph fall: classes
soph winter: classes
soph spring: if you want

junior summer: if you want
etc

technically, your freshman year is from summer to the following spring, but you don't have to take classes during spring semester.

Don't know if there is a better chance of getting into umich applying summer term. you should probably apply early anyways. hope this helped.

^ thanks

no problem. i myself was admitted summer 08 for lsa honors (kind of non-traditional but oh well).

sorry to ask but were your stats really high compared to their median and how did you like strarting school in the summer? Wasn't it hectic to get everything ready so early?

I thought it might help me to apply in the summer becuase they might see my desire to work hard in college.

mm yeah my stats were high period, and my personal issue essay, i think , made up for my imperfect gpa. if you're worried about your own stats, work on essays and apply early i guess. idk, with UM you never can tell.

you might find the 'summer bridge program' interesting, which is basically a form of probation: you're admitted as long as you do well during the summer (i think). you can search it on the umich website if you want.

was it hectic getting ready so early?
-move-in: no more hectic than moving in for fall term, it just happened earlier
-books/materials: a little hectic. but the library has copies of most of the books on reserve that you can use until yours arrive.

it was a little hectic because i didn't get a huuge summer break after my senior year of high school to relax and reflect, but i had enough time i guess.

starting school in the summer, overall, was nice.

first of all, i got used to the social life, so i'll be a little more outgoing in the fall now that i realize how nervous and accepting everyone is.

i have a round of midterms and finals under my belt already, so i won't be super-nervous going into fall and winter exams.

i have experience dealing with a roommate, college food, doing own laundry, basically adjusting to college life in a less stressful setting (no pressure of sports, extracurriculars, etc)

i've figured out the best times, locations, and methods for me personally to study.

i've gotten used to the campus, know where many things are and know my way around.

summer term classes are very fast paced, so i assume that fall term will seem a little slower-paced and relaxed. i also learned how difficult it is to keep up academic intensity throughout a whole term.

i'm right near my academic advisor so i can talk to him whenever i want, in person.
