Summer Ventures in Science & Mathematics (SVSM) 2014

I also received my e-mail

I got a legitimate packet in the regular mail with my assignments and all that.

My assignments at ECU are Explorations in Engineering and DNA Fingerprinting!

@ambnc16‌ I got DNA Fingerprinting as well! I hope it is a fun course. Did you get an email from ECU or SVSM btw?

No email, I got a packet of forms in the mail postmarked 04/11.

Did everyone send their forms out yet? I had my dad to it today!

When do we hear back from them again?

@alc2015 I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything from SVSM in awhile.

Hi I’m late to say but finally decided to go but I’m at NCCU!

I will be attending ECU this summer and have been assigned biomedical research. Does anyone else know what they have been assigned?

So, since kids next year will be looking at this thread, I’d like to give them an idea about what summer ventures was like at ASU. Id wake up at 6:30, go to breakfast at 7:30, then class at 8:00 (The first two weeks were demonstration and research classes while the last two were only research) Lunch was at 11:30-12:30 and then more class till 3:30 (although my partner and I stayed longer some days) Then at 4:00 you would have 4:00 activities where you are not allowed to stay in the dorm. This is when most of the field trips are held such as tubing and hiking (although its alot easier to do these types of things at APP than say Charlotte) Then dinner was from 5:00-6:30. You are allowed to go whenever you want. You have TON of free time and there isnt anyone around to tell you what to do after 4:00. There are some things that may be mandatory such as seminars and concerts (we went to a Mathew morris concert and watched Horn in the west) But you must be in the dorm by 9:00. From 9-11 we pretty much just played board games. Settlers of Catan gets really intense… After the 4 weeks you must present you research project to you class and then the teacher chooses the best project. (Dr. Mowa is the best) I was in Biomedical research so I studied the antibacterial properties of M. oleifera. From the top projects, catalyst winners are nominated and they get to present their work at the State of NC undergraduate research and creativity symposium(My partner and I got nominated to go). Again, you get tons of freedom! so its awesome and really makes you feel like a college student! Summer Ventures 2k14 was the best!

I was at app too and my partner and I won the catalyst award as well. We designed and built a water bottle rocket with fall away boosters.
