Hi everyone,
I’m surprised no one started this thread already. Just got my letter in the mail, going to App State this summer! Anyone else going to app state/different campus?
Hi everyone,
I’m surprised no one started this thread already. Just got my letter in the mail, going to App State this summer! Anyone else going to app state/different campus?
I will be going to App State as well!
So…
App State: @vvn26046 and @jordanc27.
Other campuses? ^.^
Do you know when we will know what course we got into?
@jordanc27 they said that they will mail out a packet on Apr 10th, so I assume that will be our courses and stuff.

Hey guys, I went to summer ventures at uncc last summer. I’ve been looking for a new thread for svsm, in case you want to hear more about it. Feel free to ask me about the program, although each campus is different.
Congrats, by the way!
@woolensocks Thanks! One of my friends got accepted into UNCC SVSM, and it would be great if you can share some information with us in general!
Some specific question I want to ask- Approximately how many people was in your program? Were there a lot of homework/projects/paper after class? Did you get into your selected classes last year?
Again, thanks
@vvn26046 I think UNCC has the best residential program- you get to go off campus a lot and there’s tons to do ( I might be biased though ). There were about 60 people there, 12 in my class (Statistics). The homework depends on what class you got into, mine had little to none (exept for the research project, of course!). The botany students had a TON though. So that depends, and you get what you put in to the program. The botany students could identify the trees around campus by the second week!
And I was an alternate, so I’m not sure how the classes worked.
As for general info, the social and residential aspect was definitely a highlight for me. Again, each campus is different, but this will probably be the first time you’re around a lot of students who are as smart or (gasp!) smarter than you are. Don’t be shy! You won’t want to leave them by the end. The research project will take a lot of time- be sure to start thinking about it early on.
I hope you all have a blast- I have to say, as cheesy as it is, that SVSM was kind of life changing.
I will be going to UNCC. Anyone else?
@woolensocks how was the campus? the food? the research project? and how was the statistics class?
@ashleyd214 The campus was hilly, my class was the farthest from the dorm. It was really empty in the summer. Most of the food places were closed, there were a few good places but the catering they had kind of sucked. You do get to go off a few times a week for food if you want. The research project depends on your class, mine was based on stats. You get to choose any topic at all, so start thinking early. You get support from your professor(s) and use of the library. The stats class was alright, we did a lot of online research. If you’ve already taken stats it’d be pretty boring; most of my classmates had and they fell asleep.
I will be going to ECU!
I will be going to App State- Visual & Image Processing and Interactive Science. Anyone else in either of those classes?
I will be attending UNCC. Does anyone know when I will know what course I will be taking?
Does anyone know how good summer ventures looks on a college application? Will attending Summer Ventures help to get into Governors School?
Hey - I stumbled upon this thread while googling SVSM to figure out how good it would look for college apps as well
Historically, I’ve been told that SVSM helps with getting into Gov School. I attended ECU SVSM last year and GSE this year. To put it in perspective, 5 people were accepted for SVSM from my school. All of these people applied, but only 2 of us were accepted to Gov School this year.
Definitely list it on your app for GS, buuuuut it doesn’t mean you’re a shoo-in. You might want to try working on your essays more because I think they put more emphasis on them (they kept telling us about their dedication to reading all of the essays).
Good luck! I enjoyed both summer programs immensely!
