Does anyone have experience or recommendations for the following summer voice programs: BASOTI, Chautauqua, Oberlin in Italy, Institute for Young Dramatic Voices, and Bay View? Thanks.

Feel free to PM me about IYDY.

Do you have specific questions about Chautauqua?

Yes, SimpleLife. My D is thinking of attending Chautauqua and I’d like to know if those who attended had a positive experience and thought the program was worthwhile, even if you’re in the chorus. Also, how were the individual lessons and coaches? TIA.

Hi hmh3515.
If you’re talking about Marlena Malas’ voice program with the Chautauqua Institution, I can tell you that it is fabulous – even if you’re in the chorus. The individual lessons, faculty, and coaches are amazing. They REALLY know their stuff! The program ‘guests’ your daughter will meet during her time there are true experts in their field. The other students there are very talented, which makes it all the more fun. There is great camaraderie. The ‘kids’ work hard. They put in very long hours at times and may very occasionally feel overscheduled. The food is pretty bad. The dorms are … meh. They’re dorms. The students are paired with hosts who check up on them, help them if logistical problems arise, possibly offer them rides into town, bake cookies for them, have them over for drinks or dinner, etc. The setting is lovely. Gorgeous. Relaxing, serene environment. Great weather for the most part. My son would very highly recommend it.

Thanks, SimpleLife. This is great to know and I shared it with my D, who has a week to decide.
