Could anyone summarize what cadets do each summer? I have heard Plebes talking about Term End Exam Leave and Buckner. How long does TEE last and how long is Bucker and what exactly do cadets do there--does it go on until its time to head back to classes? Also, what do cadets do after their 2nd and 3rd yrs at WP--I've heard that they get to train with squads in the Army, is this both summers or only after their 3rd year? Finally, when do cadets get to lead Beast for the New Cadets? The reason I ask is that I've heard parents say that dropping their kid off at WP is a little sad because they know that their cadet won't even get summers at home, as regular college students do. Thus, I'm wondering if cadets even get a few weeks off each year to go home or if they're occupied virtually all year.

The first summer-New Cadets do CBT or cadet basic training. We learn how to walk, talk, eat, sleep, etc.

The 2nd summer- CDT CPL's get 19 days leave, starting on graduation day. After that is CFT or cadet field training. It takes place at Buckner. We will learn more soljer skills. We will also go to Fort Knox to play on Tanks and Choppers.

3rd and 4th summer - Cadets do one session as cadre for either CBT or CFT. We can also go to training-Airborne, AirAssault, etc. AIAD, and CTLT also happen.

There is more detail in the West POint Catalog.

Buckner = "the best summer of your life"

Unfortunately for most kids, it won't be until you get there that you realize the sarcasm in that statement.

Theres also specialty schools, such as Sapper and SFAS, however these are extremely difficult to get as a cadet. I also know of a foreign and interservice Academy exchange program, where you spend a semester at a foreign military Academy (i.e. Sandhurst) or at the Naval Academy, Air Force, etc.

Those happen during 5th semester, or the 1st semester of the 3rd year.
