hey all,
does anyone here know if the Sunday at the square (specifically for CAS), has anything to do with scholarships?

god, i hope so.

is there anyone on the board who's been to the Sunday at The Square who can enlighten us??

ilovelamp and roklein...?

i think my invite came yesterday but it was lying in an unopened pile. i found it this morning and i got excited. i applied to CAS btw.

Does anybody approximately what percentage of admitted applicants receive these invites? I know that not receiving one doesn't automatically mean you haven't been accepted, but is there a huge number of people who receive it or just a select few?

I got an invite for Sunday @ the Square when I was a prospective student too - I didn't go though. The past couple years, I've volunteered at Stern's Sunday @ the Square thing, so I have an idea of what goes on there. There are Sunday at the Square events for most of the schools at NYU, but I think different schools have different events planned.

Being invited usually means you're invited to the Scholars program - I don't know whether it means you're considered for a scholarship or not, since I know Stern's stopped tying scholarships to Scholars invitations, but the situation might be different for other schools. In any case, you don't have any real control over what scholarships you get, since NYU doesn't let you apply for any, so just wait for your financial aid package to come along.

Since Scholars tend to be around 10-15% of NYU students (just a guess on my part based on my experience at Stern), I'd guess that the same percentage of admitted applicants receive an invitation to Scholars & Sunday at the Square.

Did any internationals get an invite?

NYU has Sunday at the Square on different dates for different schools. Those who get the invite are 'Scholars', which means access to special programs, exclusive outings/trips etc. Some of the Scholars also get a scholarship, and this information was in our acceptance packet 2 years ago.....a Stern Scholarship for $10,000 a year, renewable if you can maintain a 3.5 gpa, which is no cakewalk at Stern.
It's not at all important to attend, mostly a sales pitch and wooing.

so i take it that most applicants don't get an invite then, if Sunday at the Square is for "Scholars"?

Is "scholars" the same thing as "Presidential Scholars"?

will we get our acceptance packets earlier seeing that we won't be here the
1st??

I believe Presidential Scholarship is a scholarship given to top applicants as part of their financial aid package and that a Tisch or Stern Scholar is for top applicants to those schools and confers extra perks and experiences, but no money.

What are the implications of the Sunday at the Square invite though? (I applied to CAS)

Implications?

Am I accepted? Do I get money? Lol, just implications.

you're accepted. the money will depend on financial need and merit.

i'm so confused...so what's the difference between stern's event invitation and the other schools' invitations? and what is the definition of a "stern scholar" exactly?

okay so i read stern's website...and i'm guessing basically a stern scholar is someone who's been admitted to nyu stern's version of the honors program. so don't panic...we may not be stern scholars but we prob still have a high shot of getting in. if the invite to the sunday square thing was based on that, then it makes sense.

chocoholic: an invite to Sunday @ the Square does not mean an applicant will receive scholarship. It just means an invitation to the Scholars program.

keeshii: I got an invite to Sunday @ the Square, but I remember receiving my package on the first weekend in April, so I'd guess no.

needsinfo: Each school holds its own events for Sunday @ the Square, so Stern's event invitation is for Stern students only. If you're invited to Sunday @ the Square by Stern, that means you're probably invited to Stern Scholars. Stern Scholars is NOT the honors program - the honors program at Stern requires writing a senior thesis; Scholars is more like an honorary club. Basically, a Stern Scholar can get into special sections of classes, gets a stipend for study abroad, does community service, etc, etc.
