Sunday at the Square

youkosiren

that is exactly what I said

Oops, my bad. Just wanted to make clear that for Stern, an invitation to Scholars does not mean you'll get a scholarship BECAUSE you're a Scholar. They're totally separate things (and the Scholars administrators made it sound like they weren't offering ANY merit scholarships to Scholars, just need-based).

Interesting, I had never heard of the Stern Scholars Program until I read about it here on CC.

here's a link to it:

http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/uc/prospectivestudent/scholarsprogram.cfm?doc_id=5158

so the Scholars program only applies to Stern?
if i got an invite from Gallatin i'm not a Gallatin Scholar, am i?

Im confused...
if I forgot which school I applied to, how can I find out... ?? (im serious)

If I cannot attend the Sunday session, does that mean less chance for a scholarship? :(

vouloirrusse: I don't know, I'm not familiar with the non-Stern Sunday @ the Square events.

Inaina: it doesn't really make a difference now since you already applied, right? Just wait for the acceptance/rejection letter...

pikasof: whether you attend or not won't affect your chances for a scholarship in any way.

Some info:
Each of the NYU schools has a "Sunday at the Square" (or a "Saturday at the Square" event). If you are invited it means that you are definitely accepted, and that you are in the top of the applicant pool, and in the running for various perks (extra scholarship dollars, etc.). I don't know the details.

But only a small percentage of admitted students get these invites.

Last year, about a week after those invitations went out, NYU sent out "University Day" invitations. University Day is the same kind of thing - a big session for admitted students, for all the schools -- but it goes out to the next tier of admitted students who are not scholarship or honors candidates.

Last year, University Day was the Sunday immediately after Sunday in the Square. The dates could be different this year because Easter falls on April 8th -- so while I think the events last year were first 2 weekends in April, this year they may have to space them farther apart.

I do not know the percentage of admitted students who get University Day invites ..... it is a very large number, but it may not be all admitted students. In other words, not getting the invitation does not mean you have been rejected.

Official word does not go out until closer to the end of the month, after those invites have been mailed -- but if you get either invitation, it means you are in. They send them out early so people can plan travel around them.

My d. was a Gallatin applicant last year and received a U-Day invite, which is how I know. My d. did attend the U-Day events, mostly in an effort to negotiate for better financial aid, which was not fruitful..... (hence, no real choice but to turn down the admission offer) ... but except for that part my d. liked the event and I think had a good opportunity to have questions answered and talk to students.

calmom,

You sure abut the possiblity of getting scholarship money if you are invited for the "Sunday at the Square"? How soon will you get the package? Daughter got an invitation for the Sunday at the Sqaure and NYU is her No1 school. Her No3 school, Umich, invited her for the honors program and informed her she is considered for the Dean's scholarship. She is really anxious to know how much NYU will offer her. She will be so happy if what you said would be true.

I really think from what I've read and what the admissions person who has visited this site has said, there is very little true merit scholarship money at NYU. There is some because I know a talented, great student who got a very small scholarship for Tisch ED and he is not a candidate for financial aid. The Scholars program is more non-finanicial honor and opportunities. But if you are a scholar and have financial need, you can get a "merit" scholarship that might not be offered to a less stellar candidate with the same finances. At least, that's my read. Good luck to everyone, by the way.

Among need-based financial aid applicants, the individuals invited to Saturday/Sunday at the Square will get preferential packaging. NYU heavily leverages its aid, so the students who they view as the top prospects get the most generous offers. I don't know what happens to those who do not qualify for need-based aid.

The "Square" days are NOT a scholarship interview day and attendance will not affect whether or not the student gets grant or scholarship aid. I'm just saying that among those with need, the "Square" invitees are the ones most likely to see packages that meet their full need with a significant amount of grant aid.

hmmm....i hope i can get something...university day or sunday at the square...

My son got an invite to CAS Receptions
Friday 4/13 and monday 4/16

Is that mean he is not a 'top tier' acceptance (his SAT was 2250)

i was also invited to cas receptions

Ok, let me clarify. I already got my acceptance "sunday @ the square" but it doesn't specify my specific college. Can anyone shed light on where I can find that out?

Well, what date is it on, Inaina? I'm pretty sure that the schools have it on different dates. Also, Stern's is called "Sunday on the Square", CAS may be called "Saturday....?" Hopefully someone else will clarify. You can always pick up the phone and call NYU to check; they will not un-admit you for not knowing!!!!

Hey I got in ED and I might not have gotten one lol. I probably got one and then forgot where it is. I got the little card that says "come to the CAS orientation at such and such a date"

Saturday at the Square invitations for Tisch are arriving. My daughter received one today. She/we are really excited!

So what does it mean if you get a CAS reception invitation?
