Suny binghamton

Can anyone comment on the name recognition on the school in states other than NY

As with any school, it is known for certain departments’ strengths and not for that of others. Here in MD, Binghamton is well-known as a good state university in a rather lackluster town. I’ve known of it since 1972 when I started looking at colleges. It’s known as a state school in a rather peculiar state system where the flagship is not a flagship and where sports are not a big concern. I think of SUNYs as akin to the PA state system of 4-yr “teachers colleges” (Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock, etc.) but with something considerably more in most cases in the way of prestige, PhD programs, and academic difficulty. Always operating at the sufferance year to year of a state legislature.

@jkeil911 what would you compare it to?

For name recognition, George Mason, American, UMass-Amherst, SUNY Buffalo, WVU, UMBC, Miami (OH), Case Western, Boston University, Brandeis, Providence, etc. Does this help, OP?

Yes, thank you
