Son just graduated from UB engineering (better than SB by the way!!), although he got his degree in Mechanical and Aerospace engineering. Can’t say enough good things about UB engineering. New Computer science/engineering building opened up a couple of years ago. Son was able to do research on campus. Job/Internship engineering fair on campus each Fall. Son got paid internships between soph and jr years and jr and sr years through this job fair. Three job offers rec’d last Fall (start of his senior year) all from the job fair. (salaries in Nat’l ave per the chart someone posted for UB grads. )

Key is to keep up with the work and get a high GPA.

Crazed, this thread is about Computer Science, comparing UBUff to SBU in a major that SBU doesn’t even offer, is silly and quite frankly illogical.

sumzup, SBU ranks better than UBuffalo not just in NRC, but just about everything. To give you an example, in terms of the best return on investment, SBU is top 10 in the country. Like I said, the university at SBU invests heavily in Computer Science which is why, like I said, our Computer Science department is the size of UBuffalos entire school of Engineering. We have 3 darn buildings devoted to research, and a new $100 million building being constructed, along with 80 top notch Professors(5 more being hired, just hired 5 faculty members from MIT and CMU in Fall 2012, hiring 5 more in Fall 2013), so the difference is large, and visible, and quite frankly most in the tri-state area know about it. Not to brag, but aside from having 13 job offers, I have every right to be proud of my department. UMich is a solid program, which I respect, and if the choice is between UMich and UBuff, it’s a no brainer, UMich all the way. Unfortunately, the OP didn’t get into SBU CSE(which is becoming more and more competitive, due to our success and ridiculous recruiting), if staying in NY is a prerequisite for the OP, try aiming for SBU again. Rest assured companies like Google, Apple, and other ‘top firms’ would realize it’s not worth commuting all the way to UBuff, when SBU is right in their backyard, with a far, far, far better program. ;)

Q- Limabrad OP , did not get accepted to SB so anything you have to say about the program, while nice, is not going to help at this point. In college you want skills and an education that lead to a job. UB has a great job fair. For cost, while UM is a great well known school, it may not be the right decision for poster. (CS better at SB, OK, but UB is higher ranked in engineering programs. SBU is well, SBU and from someone living in the next town, it is usually avoided by the kids around here.

OP was not accepted to SBU so it doesn’t matter what the salary is.
UB is ranked higher by USNWR than SB for engineering. Comp sci, unsure, though SB is strong.
