SUNY Cortland Musical Theatre

Does anyone have experience with SUNY Cortland's MT program? I'm applying as a transfer to both BFA and BA programs...
what are the alumni up to? What are the performance opportunities here? How was/is your experience here in the MT program and as a student at the college in general?

I used to teach there and really enjoyed it. The faculty care about the students and do great work. As with many programs, if you commit yourself to getting everything you can out of your experience you will do well. I have a former student from there who just wrapped up the international tour of West Side Story playing Tony. He’s also been off-Broadway in Bare and worked several high profile regional theatre gigs. I had others who chose to pursue non-theatre careers after graduating.

Thank you so much @VoiceTeacher‌ , that’s great to hear! If you don’t mind answering another question, did the students seem happy with the program? And did they get involved in the school in other ways too?

I think they were happy. Kevin who runs the program is a great guy and really cares about the students. I think that makes a difference regardless of the school. Having a mentor who truly cares about you and your success can make a world of difference. The voice faculty are the same way. They are friends with each other and respectful of each other, which is not always the case at other schools. I know there are plenty of opportunities for other school activities, but you will probably find that in most MT programs the students spend the majority of their time with each other.
