Does anyone know anything or have an opinion about SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry? My daughter is interested in that school because she's done some research internships in that field and won several awards and is hoping to be a high school biology teacher. Any info/anecdotes would be greatly appreciated.

If she plans on becoming a high school biology teacher, there's no reason to break the bank and go to an expensive private school. SUNY Environmental Science will prepare her well for education, and seeing as she won't be making lots and lots of money in her job, there's just no reason to go to an expensive school where the yearly tuition will be your daughter's yearly salary!

Where is this located? Is this the program at SUNY Oswego?

it's a separate school in Syracuse. They used only to take transfer students, but now they take freshmen. Someone suggested it to my daughter and I wondered.

It's top-notch for anything science.

The SUNY ESF campus is adjacent to the Syracuse University (SU) campus - right next to the Carrier Dome. Students are able to use all SU facilities, including gyms, cafeterias, libraries, and can live in SU dormitories. They can also take some courses at SU. In short, SUNY ESF has an excellent reputation in forestry/environmental science.

I was just on the SUNY Cortland site, as my d is seriously considering going there (Oneonta and Albany are also still in the mix) but Cortland has a 5 year program with Duke- it's a 3-2 program- Get your BA at Cortland and then get a masters from Duke U from their forestry/environmental science. school. So you may want to check out the Cortland website and find the link with Duke under the cortland biological studies section. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the Cortland website, and never noticed that this program exists, but then again my kid is not planning to major in science. I think the SUNY ESF program sounds really great too. I saw your posting last night and "thought of you" upon reading about this program on the Cortland website as I thought it might be helpful. Cortland also has a joint 2-2 year program with ESF too.

A friend of ours son goes there and he is having a fabulous time. He just got back from South Africa (or thereabouts) after doing a research project with his professor.

You for thinking of my question. I'm going to check out the Cortland site today.
