I just got accepted into SUNY Purchase's B.A. Program for theatre and I was wondering what it's like. What the campus atmosphere is like, the training? I won't have an opportunity to go visit before I make my choice on where I will be spending my 2014-2015 freshman year of college because I live in California. My top three choices are SUNY Purchase, Arizona State University and CSU Fullerton. How does SUNY compare to these?

First of all, you should re-post on the Theater/Drama Major forum: <a href=“Theater/Drama Majors - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/
Second, it’s really unlikely that anyone would have enough experience with any two of those programs, much less all three, to be able to compare them. In fact, given their geographic diversity, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who applied to all of them. I am familiar with SUNY Purchase and can tell you that the campus is nothing exceptional–very new and modern (some say the architecture looks like a prison), located in a suburban area (but nothing is walkable) close enough to NYC to permit frequent visits. The usual amount of weekend partying. My concern would be that as at many schools, the BA program could be the poor stepsister to the BFA program, with far fewer performance opportunities, but maybe someone on the Theater/Drama Major forum will be able to speak to that specifically. I would question the wisdom of attending a school known primarily for its arts programs when you aren’t seeking a BFA. One thing for sure, if there’s any chance you might switch to a non-arts major, choose another school, as SUNY Purchase is weak in areas other than the arts.
