SUNY School Questions

Sorry for all the questions. Does anyone know if SUNY Queens has a good music program? D qualifies for in state in SUNY as her father works in NY and we bought a house there. We didn’t want to move her senior year.

I’m pushing her towards Potsdam but she thinks she’ll be isolated and claims she read Queens is higher ranked than Fredonia and Potsdam.

Thoughts on Purchase. Good, bad… Any other SUNY Music Schools anyone can recommend?

Thank you!

Purchase is an excellent conservatory. I believe people on this forum have written good things about Potsdam. Buffalo is good for “new music.” I don’t know about Fredonia or Queens. Is the Queens school a SUNY or CUNY?

Also regarding your other post, I believe you still have time to apply to these schools

Thank you so much. Queens is CUNY, that explains why I couldn’t find any info and kept being redirected to SUNY Purchase. I didn’t know there was a SUNY and a CUNY. So confusing. Yes, we’re aware that we still have time to apply to the NY schools. My other post were for non NY schools with scholarships. I’m not sure why, but I’m not feeling SUNY Purchase will not be a good fit for DD which is why I’m wanting more info than just it’s the ranking. Hoping to find parents who have a student there.

Both of my sons are at Purchase-one in the music conservatory and one in the theater conservatory. They are both happy there, but it definitely isn’t for everyone. (It has a very unique vibe, being an arts focused LAC, and not everyone will find it a fit, though the conservatory programs are traditional and have basically the same curriculum you’ll find at any other conservatory.) I’ll send you a PM and will happily answer any specific questions you might have. I don’t have any first-hand experience with Aaron Copland/Queens, but it is supposed to be excellent.

SUNY Fredonia is best known for music ed.
