So i see a lot of people on here are frequently applying to SUNY schools.

What is the draw of these schools, is it that they're relatively cheap?

Also, which one would be best for a chem/pre-med major

What is the draw of these schools, is it that they're relatively cheap?

Also, which one would be best for a chem/pre-med major

They’re good, cheap schools. I’d recommend a SUNY to anyone from NYS and is below Ivy league level.

For chem and pre-med I’d say Stony Brook, Buffalo, Binghamton, and Geneseo would all be good choices.

There’s nothing extraordinary about the SUNYs, but they’re generally good universities. Binghamton, Geneseo, and to a marginally less extent Buffalo and Stony Brook, are well-respected throughout the state and Northeast.

They’re usually used as fallbacks for the best students, but plenty of top students still head to the SUNYs because they either didn’t get into or couldn’t afford their top choices.

State budget cuts might adversely affect SUNYs in the near future though… so be careful.
