@sylvan8798 “I am well aware that many of my students have to take a bus or train home because they can’t afford to fly like some little snowflakes we won’t mention.”
Are you referring to my child, or any child that flies? This is uncalled for. And in our case, flying is the only option.
Also, I never called the professor rude or irresponsible.
Thanks all, I’m the OP and I’m done with this thread. LIke I said earlier, happy Thanksgiving to all and thanks for your thoughts and perspectives, those that managed to give them without insults.
One of mine is already off the entire week for Thanksgiving. For the others, they are off Wed, and they don’t cancel Tuesday but having three at same school, I have definitely seen that prof’s have made it so it’s a “soft Tuesday” before Thanksgiving (or at least all of them have told me that anyway ). Meaning they usually have a big exam/paper due, etc., the week before so that missing Tuesday isn’t a big deal because they plan it that way. Plenty of kids may not have classes on Mondays, so by making Tuesday soft, some are able to go home and have a week off at Thanksgiving. But they do hold class.
D flies between Norcal and Socal which fortunately for us has great rates - cheaper than gas to drive there. For us it can be cheaper to buy two flights for different days when they are on sale in late summer, and cancel one when we know plans for sure. Last minute changes are always expensive.
There was a long weekend earlier that included Monday and Tuesday. I canceled the Thursday lab that week, or we would have had to go 6 weeks out-of-sync in the heart of the semester.
