So now NOW has supposedly issued a statement that the ad encourages violence to women, since it shows Tim Tebow tackling his mom… Anyone else heard this? I haven’t been able to confirm it yet. If it’s true, it’s pretty pathetic… They had no problem with the Snickers ad that showed a old lady being run over by a football player…

“Commercials are advertisements. There aren’t guidelines for what is and isn’t a “real” Superbowl commercial, just what offers the NFL probably will or probably won’t accept. The Tebow commercial was very subtle in it’s pro-life message; it sounded more like his mom went on TV just to say “My Timmy is great! I love him!”. I wouldn’t have picked up on the message if I didn’t know that there would be a pro-life commercial with Tim Tebow and his mom.”

that was exactly my point. It was very subtle and unless you had already partaken in water cooler conversations about it, most people scrolled right by and did not even get it or notice it.

“OTOH, the ad got a month’s worth of media coverage and attention. They certainly got better value for money than any other advertiser yesterday.”

That will only be true if they take in money because of it. I do acknowledge that it will bring in some traffic to their website, but that is different than making money off of it. It will be interesting to see if this does a lot for them financially. I believe they had to let go 20% of their staff right before this whole thing aired because they have not been doing well financially. This may have been a good way for them to try and make some money. Or maybe not. ime will tell.
