Superscoring clarification

I'm confused about superscoring the ACT. Does this mean that you can take the ACT multiple times and personally select which subscore from which test to send to schools? (Admissions only sees the best subs which you have selected to send) Or, do you send total scores (composite plus all sub scores) of individual tests, trusting that admissions people will scan for best subs? Also how do you calculate your "best" composite? Do schools do this as well?
thanks

Superscoring of any exam is done by colleges/universities after they receive all of your scores. While many schools superscore the SAT, very few schools superscore the ACT. Your best composite simply refers to the best composite score you received in a single sitting from one exam.
