Supplement Essay

It says that if you simply copy and paste your essay into the box, there's a 2000 character limit. However, Harvard also gives you the option of uploading a document, and there's no suggested word/character limit...should I still try to keep it on the shorter side?

Also, what kinds of things are people writing about for this extra essay?

i think it'd not exceed one page anywayz

Yeah but my less-than-one-page essay is 4000 characters

don't worry about it - they don't want a tome, but if they have stated no hard limits, less than one page is fine. harvard seems to be the least dogmatic of the HYPS colleges in what they will like vs take umbrage at.

In general I think shorter essays tend to be stronger than longer ones. My son used his "What do you do for fun" essay from the MIT application for his extra essay.

Ah, I used the "what do you do for fun" for the Activity short answer on the Common App section since they leave it open to "personal" activities, too.
