Supplement Essay

Hi,
I have a few questions on the supplement essays.

Indicate how you first became interested in St. Lawrence

Please explain why you believe St. Lawrence is a good match for you

Describe how you have spent summer (or long school) vacations during the past two years.

For the first and second question: How long should it be? Does ~200words sound OK? Or should I write more? Usually colleges combine both these essays and I've written ~300 words for the combined essays in most colleges.

For the third essay: Just a factual description, or something more? Also, how long should it be?

Thanks! :)

My word counts were:

1:112
2:320
3:653

I’d say the 2nd one probably should/will be longer than the first, but roughly 300-500 word combined seem about right, my 1st one was 1 paragraph and my second 2, to give some idea of how I broke it up.

For the summer essay it was largely description, but I tried to make a point of explaining what the activites meant to me and how they define me as an individual.

Hope that helps, Good Luck!

Thanks! I guess mine will roughly be similar in length.

I have shorter essays, but I dont really care because it’s not so important as everyone thinks. This is not SAT…

Is that so? I though St. Lawrence didn’t take SATs too seriously.

I meant something else. It is “proven” that longer essays get better grades on SAT writing section.

Ah. OK. Yes, that makes sense.

Hi,
I found something. If you look at the downloadable form, there are only a few lines for each of these answers. I wonder why they’re letting us upload answers to these questions as files rather than having us enter it on the website, directly. Anyway, I’m keeping all my essays to ~100-200 words.

first question they say ‘indicate’. So i believe it should be short. just a reason.
i’m also writing for StLawrence
goodluck
