supplement q

At the bottom of the supplement it asks for additional information...do they expect a response there?

My D included additional info on other EC's. Also why W's the best fit for you. Think it as a chance to show off your writing skills.

If you mean the line "Any other pertinent information" that appears under the Payment Information heading, I think that's about payment information.

So writing about why we love Williams would be appropriate in the additional information box?

I think the additional information really is optional...I didn't give anything in my D

i think its about payment information..i left it blank.no harm done

Wrong; It's not about payment information. Williams is need blind and admissions is not looking for payment info.
It's about any additional information you can provide to Williams Admissions about what sets you apart from your competing applicants.
Like I stated earlier; this is your place to shine and show off you writing skills.
Agreed; no harm if nothing is submitted, but this is where you have an opportunity to express special love for the college or elaborate on your special conditions and EC's
Make it positive, and convince Williams Admissions why you are the better choice over those other over-achievers with 2400 SAT's and All State, National Merit, and National Honor Society credentials you are competing with.
Remember; just like at an IVY, you are competing with the best and brightest students in the World!
Good Luck!

I'm looking at the downloaded paper version here in front of me, and it certainly seems to me that this question is clearly under the heading of "Payment Information", regarding how you're going to pay the application fee when submitting by paper....check either (1) submitting a check, or (2) applying for a fee waiver.....under applying for a fee waiver, states "If requesting a fee waiver, please supply the following information", then 3 lines are listed presumably for this info: (a) combined annual income, (b) number of dependents, and (c) "any other pertinent information." This last line is formatted and indented identically to the prior 2, with no additional spacing separating this additional info line from the prior payment info lines.

So, by appearances to me, this is not an open question, but related to why an applicant may feel justified in applying for a fee waiver......its not about need-blind financial aid.

rskibum-- did you obtain your interpretation from the admissions office or another authority?

i didn't do anything extra in the additional information box...everyone has it and i said all i needed to say in the rest of my app.

Papa, blueberry, et al;
OK, there's a misunderstanding in this post regarding the Williams supplement on the "commonapp.org" web site.

The original poster, Blueberry, was NOT referring to the line; "any other pertinent information." in the payment section.

Blue and I are referring to the NEXT page, #3, where the header states;

"Note; please use the space below for any additional infomation."

So, if you have something special to offer, this is where you put it.
If not, leave it blank.......(I wouldn't.) Like I said, use it as a place to shine.
Admissions is eager to learn more about you, the student and person. This page is a vacuum waiting to be filled in by you.
1 out of 5 get admitted, so I'd advise that you use every resource you have.

My D wrote a nice short essay on what a great place Williams is, and why it was the perfect fit for her, and was subsequently admitted ED.

Call or email admissions to confirm. "<a href="http://www.admission@williams.edu">www.admission@williams.edu</a>"</p>

rskibum-- thanks......& this is interesting because the downloaded version has no page 3 nor header as you mentioned, & the pertinent info line is the last one I see on page 2.

have a look:
<a href="http://www.williams.edu/admission/app_2005/supplement06.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.williams.edu/admission/app_2005/supplement06.pdf</a></p>

that's interesting rskibum, a lot of other schools request to not have extra essays in the additional information box. for example, my gc said that columbia looks down upon extra essays written in the "additional info" area.

Papa;
OK, I scoped out the latest version of the Williams supplement on commonapp.org and there is no page 3.
So, apparently Williams has changed the supplement.

I can't send the one my D filled out because, well, it's filled out.

Sorry!

The regular application has room for additional information.

Don't make it lengthy, just make it really, really good.

Hot;
Read Princeton Review's; "America's Elite Colleges", 2001, Chapter 7,
pages 100-111. Page 111 is excellent advice on the "Extras."
Their take; If you've got it, flaunt it. If not, don't.
Yup, the book is out of date, but the advice isn't.

okay, thanks... i already sent in all of my apps, so it's too late now. but my gc isn't the most reliable source of info. i can now warn my friends with jan. 15 deadlines.
