I was stupid and waited until the last minute to send in my housing application because I wasn't sure if I was going to UT. I was offered supplemental housing and I accepted, but now I'm wondering if I should live in a private dorm instead. I wanted to have the full college experience and figured that living on campus was the best way to do that, however, it seems like a private dorm is the next best option.

Right now the only private dorms available seem to be the Dobie Center, Castilian, and University Towers. At this point I'm leaning towards Dobie over supplemental housing and the other private dorms, but I wanted to get opinions from others. Where would you choose to live in this situation: supplemental housing or a private dorm (and which one)?

Apparently the Castilian did millions of dollars in renovations though. Towers looks so pretty online and has a living room and kitchen, but the rest of the building looks trashed after parties are thrown (which is more than once a week). Also, I don’t want to be surrounded by fraternity activities (mainly parties) all the time. I looked at pictures of UT’s supplemental housing online and it is not worth the $9,000+ they will be charging me to live with 3 other people compared to the private dorms…the only good is the on-campus feel and experience. I can’t decide on anything!

I’m right there with you! I need to decide on something. I decided to apply to UT two days before the deadline so and I applied for housing about 2 days after the deadline so I don’t exactly have too many options. I can wait until I get a supplemental contract(If I get one) and then decide between the private dorms. I am thinking Dobie though because it is really close to McCombs, which is where I will be spending most of my time I assume. What’s your major though?

Actually Supplemental housing is not bad at all… most supplemental rooms are in Jester and they have it in every floors with other students… its looks nice like normal dorms but more spacious, but you have a great chance of getting a bunk bed(which i don’t really prefer but I am okay with it)… if that’s not your thing and ur okay with a more expensive private dorms go for it…

PS: you get an additional 10% off if you’re living in a supplemental room. so it’s not really that bad… and you make more friends since you have a chance of sharing it with 2-3 other people instead of just 1 in a normal dorm room!
