Does it hurt sending supplemental materials....like from people you have worked for before even though it is not your intended major?
How many is too many?
can they hurt your chances of getting in?

it does not hurt at all, i don't see why it would hurt unless you claim yourself as an award winning artist and you send in art that has no merit at all.. or you talk about your years of research and send in a flimsy report that clearly wouldn't make it in a local science fair.

i remember the hopkins people saying they spend about five minutes per applicants on supplemental material, so keep that in mind.

i personally sent in two sheets of artwork as my supplement, along with a paragraph describing exactly what it was.. if that helps any

Your questions are answered here:

Well I have a few things...
1. A letter from an assistance director of admission (because Im in some weird program there right now)
2. A letter from an alum who is related to my field of study
3. Anothe letter from an ambassador who also happen to be a family friend (again, related to my field of study, knows me really well and was gonna intern for him).
plus the 2 teachers and 1 counsleor one.

Is this too much? See most ppl sent theirs in already, so id feel guilty telling htem to stop sending it...

Hey...I'm submitting an app to the Wilson Fellowship...I've done research at the U of WA so i'm submitting an abstract on that. Should I submit another copy directly to admissions...or will that be included in my file?

^ if you send your abstract to the admissions office, it should go in your file and the adcoms will see it, at least, that is what i'm banking on...

i put my ssn and name on each one, as well as my high school, just to make sure. just make sure you label it so they know whose it is

Let's answer a few questions on this thread:

(1) Yes you may submit extra letters of recommendation. They require two (teacher and counselor) and recommend no more than a max of 4. If you submit more than 4 it will not impact you negatively, it is just not what the adcoms want. aminaest it seems is sending 6 letters. This will not hurt chances but the adcom reading the file may choose only to look at 4 of the 6 letters.

(2) supplemental materials such as portfolios, slides, art work, cds, etc. are also welcome -- and fjchowdhury was right about the 5 minutes rule

(3) as far as the wilson fellowship application, do need to send more than one copy. Admissions processes all those applications and will duplicate documents to be sent to the faculty panel.

hope this helps.

yeah, that makes sense thanks...whcih one od u htink i should get rid of then? my second Teacher's recommendation?... cause the one from the associate director of admission needs to be there since it explains why im not taking as many difficult classes at my school.
