Hello,

Last week, I received an email from UCI stating that I've been invited to "enhance my application" by completing two more essays (optional).

My weighted GPA is 4.2 with SAT of 1830. In addition, I have multiple varsity sports, extracurriculars, community service, leadership positions, and an internship with the California State Senate on my resume. I plan on completing the questionnaire, but should I be worried about my chances of acceptance?

For your own comparison and evaluation, my GPA unweighted is about 2.7. Weighted is, to my relief, just above 3.0. My submitted SAT is 1920 with a 580 CR, 710 M, and 630 W. Aside from the SAT, all I have to my name is some community service, 2 years of track/field, a part-time job at McDonald’s acquired in August 2013, and a 3 on my Calculus BC test and a 5 on my AB subscore. I received a supplemental application. Your stats, specifically your GPA, blow mine completely out of the water, so either you live far, far away from the college (I live about 500 miles away in California), your personal statements were complete crap, or you applied under an extremely competitive major compared to mine (I applied as a Computer Science major). Although my personal statements were done and turned in a day after they were originally due, they were, in my opinion, moving. Your receiving a supplemental application means that you are considered BORDERLINE and these two extra “essays” may very well make/break you as an applicant. Better make them good.

IamFive0, your stats are very similar to my D, who also received the same email. Her major is Civil Engineering. She ended up only doing one of the additional essay prompts and updating her most recent grades (All A’s, including 3 AP). I’d agree that you’re both probably on the bubble. I’ll post the decision when it’s made.

@IamFiveO Did you get in?
