I’m going to be applying to selective colleges this fall and I’m feeling pretty insecure with 1990 SAT scores. My extra curriculars are pretty good and so are my grades. I know the schools I’m aiming for are going to be a strech, so I was thinking of sending in supplemental art slides. I think I’m a decent artist and I’ve won city-wide recognition/awards for my art. Do you guys think it’d be a good idea to send in slides? Especially since colleges only call for “exceptional talent.” (I’m not sure if I’m exceptional or anything, I just like art.) Would it even help? Also, I know that colleges always stress not to send in extra stuff (like letters of recommendation or essays). Do the art slides apply?
Oh, and is it better to do the optional Harvard supplemental essays than not? Or is this the extra clutter they warn you not to submit unless you absolutely have to?
Sorry that was so long-winded! Hope you guys can help!

I'd say def. submit the Harvard essays, b/c otherwise they will wonder why you don't, and they'll probably choose a similar student who did over you if you don't.
As for art, it won't hurt your app, but could help, so I'd def. do it.

As far as sending art slides, I'm planning on doing that when I apply to Brown. I went on a tour there and asked the student tour guide, who told me that a lot of people he knows had done it. It's sent to the art department and observed, and I got the impression that if they decided you were talented they'd tell the adcoms, thus helping your case, but if they thought your work sucked it wouldn't help or hurt, it would just be disregarded. That's pretty much what he said. So you should send them; even if you're not super-talented, at least it shows you're passionate about something.

im sending in a poem ( maybe two ..but is more better in this case though?? ) im also applying to H and Y AND im also insecure bout my SAT. lol Well you should def. send them in. Besides , art can't really suck; for beauty is in the eye of the beholder
