are we allowed to send writing as supplementary material to Williams? i'm applying to the school through Questbridge and it says we're allowed to. but when i went to the Williams admissions website, there's no mention of writing as an option.

yes you are able to. the fact that they don't have a supplement form means that it won't get reviewed by an academic department (or sent to an academic department), but rather, only considered by admissions staff.

I asked the same question.

What if you're applying as an econ major/ studio art minor...should I send in an art portfolio as a supplement?

Yes to both.

stasis, I don't know Williams official position on writing samples, but I do believe that they welcome supplementary materials that demonstrate talent, creativity and interests outside of academia. They like multi-faceted kids.

Carpeveum, Williams absolutely encourages submission of art portfolios, even for non-majors. I'd suggest that you put together an art package -- slides, resume listing classes/accomplishments/awards, statement, an additional recommendation from an instructor or mentor.

Williams doesn't have minors, but it's quite common to major in two seemingly unrelated disciplines (like economics and art). They have a wonderful and well funded art department (studio and history) and a strong portfolio would definitely enhance your application.
