supplement materials to applications

Are there any restrictions to what kind and what size the supplement materials have to be? I want to send in a few art works of mine (they're duplicates), and I was wondering if they'd allow that. Around 8 pieces.

Other than huge thick binders and folders full of certificates, they're pretty much open to anything else right?

There are no restrictions, but it seems like they don't like lots of extra stuff. Sometimes it works, though--why not just send your best piece, rather than eight? Then again, someone sent a 10-page album once, and it worked!

cause the 8 different artworks are done w/ different media and sorta show different skills... As long as there isn't a limit as to the length of the supplementary materials, I'm fine.

I think there have been a couple of threads about this already...

I think most colleges like artwork in slide form, no more than 10 slides.

Either slides or pictures of them on a CD. Do not send the art works themselves.

Most schools have an "arts supplement" (if not, the Common App does), which will indicate how they want to receive such items.

what about in general? Like are colleges really strict about the supplement materials, or do we have the freedom to express ourselves in any way we want (reasonably).

I'm not asking for them to guarantee to look at my supplements (I know this isn't possible); I just want to make sure there are no stated restrictions.

You do not have unfettered freedom. Do not send the originals; the admissions counselors don't want to have to store them or ship them to folks in the art department to evaluate. Consider not just what you want, but what will make things easier for the admissions counselors.
