Supplementary Research

Hi everyone,
I have been looking around CC and see that some people are submitting research with their applications. I'm a junior now and I'm interested in going to HYPMSC for college and majoring in physics or math (idk yet).

My question here is how much benefit is gained by including Supplementary research with your app? I know it must depend on what is being submitted, to be honest I don't really know what research really gets submitted? Another thing I'm wondering is how big is the research being submitted; I mean how long are the papers because I wouldn't assume they have time to read everything. Or is an abstract just submitted. I hope I am not put at a disadvantage for not have any research, although I'm probably going to start looking for some opportunities.

Thanks. I know I asked multiple questions but if you can provide any information on this that would be great.

When I called, the lady said to submit the abstract, and not the entire paper. Not having research experience will not hurt you in the admissions process. I submitted 3 abstracts (for 3 different research projects) I had been working on over the past 2 years, so if you have more than 1 research thing going, go ahead and submit them.

But, I’m not sure how much of an effect it has in the admissions process since I am not a current student.

thanks, helpful info

Depends how good it is: If it has been presented at a conference, if it was published in a journal, if you were paid for it… If it was one of the first two, then I belive that it helps a lot. If not, then perhaps not too much, except showing where your interests and passions lie.
