So a couple years ago one of my friends got into MIT and he submitted a supplement as a part of the app process. The supplement was a video of him doing a backflip on skis (we live in a mountain town); however, he obviously did not go to MIT for sports (he was accepted) so the supplement was just on a hobby he enjoyed so the admissions officers could get a better sense of who he was.
I was reading up on Dartmouth (a school I will be applying to) and it clearly states on their website to not submit a sports video for a supplement. However, I ski race and love to do so and think it is a large part of my life and is also what I will be writing one essay on most likely. I, just as my friend, am not applying to Dartmouth to be on their esteemed ski team, but for the academics so this video is not meant to be a “get recruited video” it is just supposed to be a video of what I love to do. Is it acceptable to send in this video? (btw, Dartmouth for Ski Racing is the equivalent of UCLA for basketball when John Wooden was there).
If it says to not submit one, then don’t submit one. If you write about it in an essay, it should be enough to show how much you love skiing.
I agree with @rdeng2614 Don’t submit a video. They won’t look at it and they will know that you didn’t follow their application instructions.
