I need to go buy a Bosch dishwasher today and crossing my fingers there’s no issues with stock. They’re made in NC apparently so I’m hopeful.
Something that’s weirdly dissonant is that international shipping for small/individual packages is running fine. I’ve had small packages delivered from Ukraine and Japan over the last few months and shipping only took a few days. I understand the supply problem is with big container ships but it still feels weird that international delivery for individual packages is running fine. I guess that’s good news for people sending gifts overseas at least.
Please report back.
Back in 10/20, I ordered Bosch appliances from a local appliance store for a kitchen remodel that started 1/21. The refrigerator arrived in Jan. the range in March, but no dishwasher and no date. in April , I realized Home Depot had stock so took delivery . But the dishwasher was damaged( inside tub dented so the 3rd rack doesn’t slide in). Bosch approved a replacement in April, but I am still waiting. Customer service reports that a unit has been “assigned” to me, but still can’t give me a date for delivery! I call once or twice a month.
Well just came back disappointed from the appliance store. 6 month backlog for both Bosch and Miele dishwashers. I thought I read they’re made in NC but the salesperson said they still ship from Germany - maybe finally assembly is in NC. I didn’t order anything but should probably just get on the list.
Just got back from the grocery store. Egg section was definitely depleted. There was a lot less toilet paper than usual. I noticed they had it on an aisle that shared other products-normally it takes up the entire aisle. I wonder if they were trying to avoid making it obvious that they were low so as to avoid hoarding. Also noticed fewer Triscuit boxes on the cracker aisle. They were sold out of “original” style and just had low fat and other seasoned varieties. They had lots of bacon and other pork products. Plenty of meat and poultry.
We still do curbside grocery pick up, ordering from two different stores. Neither one has had any lactose-free milk available for the last 10 days. Fortunately, the FairLife brand we prefer is usually dated about three to four weeks from the purchase date so we still have some milk for our grandchild although it won’t last long.
The only eggs showing available for today’s pickup were the costliest, “Eggland” brand. I received a carton of 18 instead of 12, and guess I should be thankful.
Placing this order took twice as long as usual due to having to search for alternatives. Even with allowing for more substitutions than I typically do, about one third of the items were no longer available by this morning. We’re going to have some unusual meals for a while.
Finally got my preferred brand of laundry detergent after it being out of stock for the last three weeks. I told my H that I’m going to start looking for my non perishable Thanksgiving ingredients now.
I saw a news report that due to bottle shortages, champagne was in short supply. So the first chance I got I went to our local liquor store. They had oodles and oodles of champagne. Some news reports have to be taken with a grain of salt.
Today I went to the “Big City” for a doctor’s appointment. I also went to Kroger and Sam’s. Sam’s had no turkeys at all. Some one in the department said that they didn’t know when they would get more. Almost everyone had paper towels and toilet paper in their cart. I didn’t because we had more than enough. Most items were in stock, but there were some glaring empty shelves here and there.
Kroger had 3 Butterball turkeys, so I bought one. It was 18 1/2 lbs., which was smaller than I wanted, but it will do. I talked to the meat manager and he said that they were not getting 1/2 of what they ordered, and didn’t know when the next shipment of turkeys would arrive. Since I live 1/2 an hour away, I decided to get the one. They had more empty shelves, but again it was spotty. They had Honeycrisp apples, toilet paper and paper towels. They were low on their canned vegetables, with more empty spots. Fortunately, they had everything that I needed.
There was a glut of unsold bubbly because weddings etc. were canceled during the pandemic. Possible that winemakers cut down on production, which triggered fewer bottle orders, which could lead to less bubbly bottled… (Champagne-method made bubbly is fermented in bottles).
I have been doing fine so far with holiday shopping. Just the basics, nothing fancy. I think we will be OK. I am trying to give my three sons more practical gifts. There is one Star Wars board game that I wanted that is hard to get and overpriced, and I just picked up a used original Pictionary game, not very expensive on Ebay. Other gifts are jacket, luggage, and I recently bought a laptop with no problem.
I will also give at least one experiential gift - a punch card at the climbing gym.
A car — well that’s not happening for Christmas! That’s the hard one!
We were doing fine until electronics came into the picture. There was a month wait for the laptop my D needed for school (although we ordered it way in advance so it’s here) but my H’s speakers won’t be here until after xmas.
I started my holiday shopping a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving to hopefully get ahead of any supply or shipping issues. However, I still have a few things I need to get. Yesterday I was ordering some athletic shorts from a company my son likes and this popped up when I was ordering - “There may be a delay of up to 10 working days added to orders.”
I’m still waiting for a lot of packages for things I ordered early last week, but so far, so good. I won’t be upset if things are late, as long as they eventually arrive. I’ve been known to wrap a picture of something if it was backordered or delayed.
Not exactly holiday shopping, but we had to order a new kitchen faucet, wanting to match the pre-existing one. Ordered Oct 25, supposed to arrive Nov. 1. Waiting, waiting, waiting, just about to give up, and, CHRISTMAS MIRACLE, it allegedly shipped Friday!!! Supposed to arrive tomorrow, will believe it when I see it!!
Target hasn’t had our kitty’s food for at least a month. I bought the last bag there at the time…not been restocked. Yesterday I went to Walmart…they had three teeny bags but I bought those too.
My DD checked and Chewy has this food. Hope they have it when we use the well over 20 pounds we have now!
I went to a Petco yesterday, and the store had so many bare shelves it was frightening. Lots of notes “manufacturer is out.” A miracle - my cats’ food was the only one in ample supply! I grabbed a bag but should have bought two, because these stinkers refused to eat a different Science Diet food I bought when theirs was not available.
People were buying armloads of pet holiday themed toys…
