Hi I’m a high school junior, and I’m looking into SCM, and I need some guidance into finding the right college for me.
Stats:
3.8 UW GPA, 4.4 W GPA
33 ACT
ECs: Excellent (FIRST Robotics,
Eagle Scout, etc.)
Male from NJ, Above-Average Public HS
Can pay for any college (income bracket: $250k+)
I’m looking into the following colleges right now:
Penn State - Schreyer Honors College
Michigan (Industrial Engineering)
Wisconsin
Michigan State - Honors College
Rutgers
Can I have some more advice? I’d like a school with a D1 Football Team and a Basketball or Hockey Team that people care about. Currently looking at Large, Public schools in Midwest/Mid-Atlantic.
Michigan State is renown in the field (I’m a bit of a CAM geek and it’s frequently mentioned in industry podcasts as well as magazines), so if you’re positive about the field, I would strongly look into MSU.
All excellent schools. A few other schools to check out:
University of Maryland - SCM major in Smith
Ohio State University - Logistics major in Fisher
Georgia Tech - An excellent and one of the best Industrial Engineering program with co-op and international plan options
A few different ways to go about it. For example, I obtained my Industrial Engineering degree from one of the schools you listed in your post as I wanted to develop strong technical/quantitative skills. After working my first job as a Quality Assurance Engineer, I went back for my MBA full time with a focus in SCM. This led me to a career in Strategic Sourcing, working in a number of different industries from computer manufacturing to investment banking.
Penn State and Michigan State definitely (as long as you can afford them), plus Gtech, Michigan, Wisconsin.
If you apply to Penn State Sept. 1st, you should hear back by November, and have an excellent safety. (Schreyer essay topics are uploaded July 1st).
I do occupational medicine and one of our clients is General Mills. They hire a lot of new grads (and interns) out of Ohio State for supply chain positions. Columbus has a lot of distribution centers (GAP, Pier1, Limited and soon Amazon) so there will be a lot of intern opportunities if OSU appeals to you .
Well, right now, my top choices are PSU (Honors), UM (Industrial Eng.), MSU (Honors), GT, Wisconsin, OSU, then Tennessee, so I’ve looked into the OSU program. Didn’t know the intern opportunities were so good though.
