Surefire way to balance?

So on the May Chem Subj test, I scored a 740, and I felt it was mainly due to a lack of time due to the pretty hard balancing equations problems. Does anyone know a guaranteed method of balancing? I know there's an algebraic method, but I'm not if it works in every type of regular balancing problem. Also, should I be analyzing the oxidation numbers always before deciding on regular balancing or redox balancing?

saw this video by this guy. not sure if its anything new to you but it kinda helped me.
