Hey all, so I have a 3.5 GPA with a 29 ACT. I had an in school suspension for basically arguing with a teacher and leaving class about 10 seconds early, it was more an accumulative of getting in trouble though. How bad will this affect my chance of getting into a state school such as SDSU. I am really worried thank you so much.

Suspension for insubordination and violation of school policies regarding attendance, not to mention a history of trouble? (I’ll assume you meant to say culmination rather than accumulative.) Sorry but your chances are shot to hell. You’ll never get into any prestigious university, as your disciplinary record will serve as a “negative” recommendation. Schools have too many qualified applicants with no disciplinary records to warrant taking a chance on you. Sorry. Maybe community college and then transfer… just kidding!!! XD But seriously, simply explain the situation and I’m sure it won’t adversely impact you too much. It’s not like you fought the teacher!

If I am correct, ISS is less severe (by far) than an actual suspension. As such, I wouldn’t worry too much. It will appear on your record, but it won’t really do much damage, if any at all.

The common app only asks about out of school suspensions.
If the collwge wants to know about ISS, just say what you have learned from it. A friend of mine got an out of school suspension for stabbing another friend in the hand with a pen. She still got a good amount of merit money.
