I'm a student in Canada, and in my grade 11 year I was suspended for 1 day. The school said that it is only going to be an in school thing so it won't show on my transcript or anything.

I was wondering how much will it affect my chance of getting into an American college.(they're so hard to get into already)

Right now I'm looking at schools like NYU, UCLA, USC and UChicago.

If it is not on your transcript, it will have no effect. Even if it does somehow get on your apps, it won’t hurt you that much depending on the situation. Go UCLA by the way. I’m probably going to end up there. It’s beautiful.

Yea, UCLA isn’t as shady neighborhood as USC… But honestly bro, tell the truth. I got 3 days in school suspension for fighting. Straight up tell them exactly what happened and why it was a bad choice.

Should I still tick the yes box for the suspension question on the commonapps even though its only noted on internal school documents and not a document that is going to be sent out?

It depends on how much of a risk you’re willing to take. If you don’t think they’ll ever find out if you mark no, then go for it. Personally I would come clean, since if they ever did for any reason, they could a) rescind you when you get admitted, b) expel you when you’re studying, or c) disqualify your degree after you graduate. The risks just aren’t worth it, and for a one-day thing, I doubt it would affect your app.
