I was suspended in 6th grade. When colleges ask if you have ever been suspended, does that mean just for high school or for every year of school?

I've had a pretty clean record since high school began, but am worried that this early blemish could effect my chances at good colleges.

Colleges will forgive you for being a dumb 11 year old. They will not forgive you being a liar. However, if your High school transcript does not indicate elementary suspenions, I would check the "no" box.

Only high school counts. How in the world would they ever know- or care- about a 6th grade suspension? On another note- how did you manage to do something bad enough to get suspended in 6th grade? (I am the forum's resident expert on handling explanations of suspension/expulsion)

Relax. They are only interested in your high school record.

I beat up a kid...he kept calling me this one name. I gave him about a dozen warnings. The guy just wouldn't quit...I lost control...no serious damage, but I did hurt him...enough for a two day suspension...

Ha ha. I've always wanted to do that. But I managed in trying to hold it in. All I succeded in was giving myself a stoned look. Looking back I'm proud that I was able to stay sane. Even the people who taunted me than have said to me in the near past that they went overboard with it.

In any case, colleges don't care about middle school.

Unless it shows up in your high school transcript (highly unlikely), then it doesn't matter, and you shouldn't even bother mentioning it. You stood up for yourself; I find that commendable.

What I did was stupid, not commendable. I should have had a thick skin (which I have since developed).

I thought you gave the guy several warnings? It's not like you beat him up without any warnings..

Yeah, I gave him warnings, but still. I should have had some self-control.

Its like the Israeli soldiers shooting at those dumb Palestinian rock-throwing devil-children. Sure, they give the kids lots of warnings and even fire shots in the air before killing the little brainwashed things, but it's still extreme.

Did you harm the kid enough to send him to the ER or something?

Edit: I am so sorry that it wasn't very politically correct, but based on the example that was used, I didn't know whether you killed him or fatally injured him. I apologize for not being politically correct.

Second Edit: Didn't see that it wasn't directed towards me.

I must say, that could have been said much more politicily correctly.

I have no love for Palestinian extremists. I'm not saying all Palestinians are dumb or extreme or anything like that, but those that subscribe to such extremist acts are.

And I didn't hurt the kid that badly. No blood. No broken bones. Just a couple of bruises.

Yea plus it's not really comparable since you are comparing Soldiers vs Kids and Kids vs Kids.

In your case, you were both kids. Don't worry about it.

Of course. I'm just drawling parallels here: the Israeli soldiers, although provoked, committed an extreme act. I was provoked; I committed an extreme act.

I've always wanted to do that, but I've never gotten the chance to because the people who got on my nerves were the fake kind of "but we're so nice to you, why would you even consider beating us up?".

And then they'd turn around and say, "Yea, she's a dumback."

I figured it was fighting. Fighting isn't that big of a deal even for high school, unless you have a pattern of violence. You are good. Don't worry about it.

I noticed that there seems to be a consensus that middle school and below doesn't matter, but i don't quite see how you could check no given that your counselor is asked if you have EVER been suspended on the common app. Am I missing something?
