Does anyone have any information regarding where Swarthmore Premed Students attend medical school? and where they are accepted?

i asked about this when a student called me, but i didnt get any specifics..i also emailed the pre-med advisor or someone, but they never got back to me. however, swarthmore is a great school and if you do well (b+ average) and get at least like a 30 mcat, you'll probably def get into a med school, and if you do REALLY well you can get in pretty much anywhere. im also pre-med and i turned down guaranteed med school acceptances to drexel med (7 or 8 year), new jersey med (7 year), and psu hershey med to go to swarthmore, so im pretty comfortable that swarthmore will give me the education/resources i need to get into med school in four years. oh plus make sure you do like medical-related activities..we can volunteer at the local hospital together :)

Swarthmore students have gone to pretty much every medical school in the country. The top Swat pre-meds get into the top med schools.

In the Wall Street Journal article on feeder schools to the top five med schools, top five law schools, and top five Biz schools, Swarthmore was ranked in the top-ten per capita of all US colleges and universities. However, I think the Journal's methodology was so flawed as to be considered intellectually bogus. They only looked at five med schools (which is too small a number) and they only looked at ONE year. That is a woefully inadequate sample size because there is so much variation from year to year. With such a small graduating class, think about the impact on Swat's per student percentages from year to year: compare a year when two Swatties get into Harvard Med and a year when none get in. Combine that with the national trend for Med, Law, and Biz school kids to do something for a couple of years between college and professional school (an NIH research internship, a Peace Corp health project, etc.) and you would really have to look at data going back over, say, a ten year period.

In terms of raw numbers, most attended grad schools overall for Swattties in the last few years, in decreasing order, are listed below. But, remember that an shift of just a few Swatties one way or another could re-order this list and I'm sure there is a larger group that would bump its way onto this list with just one additional Swattie:

U. C. Berkeley
Univ. of Chicago
Harvard
M. I. T.
U. of Michigan
New York University
Univ. of Pennsylvania
Princeton
Stanford
Oxford
Ohio State
Duke
Columbia
Cornell
Yale

Of the Swatties who go on to grad school, Phd/Masters programs in arts and science fields is the biggest category. Med School is number two. Law School is number three. MBA is number four followed closely by Education, Theology, and Engineering.

This gives a broader picture on future plans of Swat class '04.
