Do you all want to post stats?
@ARousseau stats are a great idea for students about to begin this cycle. I’ll put a stats post together this afternoon to share on all of my threads.
I made a results page for people to put all their decisions for all schools, so it can help future applicants get an idea of where they stand. Just click on my profile, and it should be in the threads
Thanks, @Ashtash, and @ARousseau I responded on that thread but will also add my info here to make it easy for future students to find.

Comments: I had my essays checked for grammar and clarity but resisted changes to content because I felt that it was more important that I represented myself accurately than that I changed what I focused on to fit within the box the transfer advisors expected. I felt that it was better to be rejected for who I am than accepted for someone I am not; this worked out well for me. I am in my mid-thirties with a teenage daughter, I immigrated to the US in my twenties, my husband and I are transferring together and got into all of the same colleges. I have a couple of decades of work experience outside of my field and have traveled extensively. I think that this breadth of experience contributed to our unexpected success across the various types of colleges to which we chose to apply.
Hi all, I just got accepted off the waitlist on Monday and was wondering if there was a Facebook or Groupme.
For future applicants, I was accepted off the waitlist on 06/03.
Current College: Unranked State School
Entering as a junior
GPA: 4.0 (second semester grades were strong)
ACT and GPA in high school were low
Applied for FA and received an amazing package
Comments: On the waitlist continued interest letter I tried to relate why I love Swarthmore with a specific story that noted when I knew it was where I wanted to be. I also toured and interviewed which I think really helped because it showed my interest.
Hi, I know this thread is quite old but I was wondering for those who got in, what were your stats and extra curriculares?
I am wondering the same. My son applied ED for the class of 2024.
Hi there!
I transferred to Swarthmore this semester.
My GPA last semester at my previous college was 4.0, and my GPA the semester before that was around 3.9. I transferred after my first year of university.
In high school, my unweighted GPA was 3.87 out of 4, and weighted was around 4.4 out of 5.
I never took AP courses, however I was able to be dual enrolled at the university I spent my first year at. My school only offered two AP classes anyways, so I did not feel like I really needed to take AP.
In terms, of extracurriculars, at my previous college I founded my university’s Collegiate DECA chapter, in which I grew membership from 0 to over 30 due-paying members.
I was in a leadership council that was often referred to as the top representation of my school within the uni (school of business). I was the only freshman in the council, and I had to meet a grade requirement, complete an application, and do an interview. I joined the earliest possible.
In high school, I was not very involved in extracurriculars, so I did not get into prestigious top tier schools. However, a year and a half later, it all worked out
My high school was not a top tier high school in that I don’t think any student from my high school went to Swarthmore. But then again, it is a school that opened in 2004 (relatively new), each year with a graduating class of 100 students (small), with a specialty in science and engineering.
Anyways, if you guys or @Bromptonboy your son has any further questions, let me know and I will be happy to answer!
@Bromptonboy When does your son get his decision?
Is he planning to visit campus anytime soon, or has he already visited campus?
@calmlywaiting Thanks! Word is that ED comes out Friday 12/13. This is obviously his first choice. We visited the campus twice, and he did an interview in September. We loved the whole vibe around campus. We live in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia, so Swarthmore is not far for us.
How do you find Swarthmore stacks up to your previous school? Is the workload as tough as the rumors would have us believe? Thanks in advance.
Do you mind posting your stats?
@Bromptonboy
The workload here is definitely no joke. There are lots of assignments that students have to do on a regular basis throughout the semester, and it is common for a student to perhaps have two or three papers due on the same day. Honestly I do find it a lot harder than my previous school, however at the end of the day I feel that it is worth it. This is really why so many Swatties feel that graduate school is a very smooth transition, as the third and fourth years could be on par with the graduate course level.
There is a saying at Swarthmore that “anywhere else it would have been an A,” meaning it is not as easy to get an A as at other schools, especially my previous college.
Honestly, if your son got in to Swat, then I am sure he has the capabilities to be at Swat.
Have decisions come out yet? Good luck to him!!
