Swarthmore vs. Williams vs. MMSS

MMSS is a fabulous program. Perfect preparation for the Kellogg Program.
Swarthmore has fantastic Econ Depart. and unique Engineering Program (whose environmental engineering appeals to me).
Williams...I dunno...great natural environment I guess and whatever reasons for its being the first LAC in the States for several years.

I'm interested in business. I was thinking about iBank but the fact that because of the recession, Wall Street cuts 30% of its interns warns me that devoting all my time into getting into iBank is probably not the best idea. Then Swarthmore and Williams look more appealing because they do give their students more flexible education in discovering what they are interested in.

Which one shall I go to? Cheers!

If there is one wrong reason to choose Williams over Swarthmore, it is "whatever reasons for its being the first LAC in the States for several years".

I don't know what MMSS is, but both W and S will provide an opportunity for great education. If at all possible, you should try to visit both, and see where you like it better - even though on the surface they are similar, I think they have a different "vibe", and you are likely to prefer one over another.

go for your emotional fit. you can't lose if you give your heart to either S or W and you have a decent work ethic...they are NOT the same communities and one of them is part of a major city by only a quick train ride

Yes... definitely consider the rural v. city aspect. While I don't know what the environment at Williams is like, I do know that having access to a really decent city is a nice perk. A number of my friends check out the Philadelphia orchestra a number of times a semester.

Northwestern and Swarthmore are just about as different as two good schools could be.

Swarthmore is indeed at a better location for me. But my concern now is whether or not I will have the time to enjoy the city if I go to Swarthmore. I like the outdoors too. And it looks like many students have the chance to go out and play (maybe in the winter).
But anyway, great advice from you

There are many differences between Swat and Williams.. one of them is that Swat offers engineering, keeping your options even wider

Students at Swat certainly have time to enjoy Philly, just mostly on the weekends. I had an internship in philly for a year, and Swat payed the transportation costs, and a similar internship, or any internship in my field, would not have been available in the Berkshires.

i applied to swarthmore, williams, and northwestern (mccormick)

i like all of them for other reasons. though williams does not offer a engineering major, they do have a cool physics program that offers students research opportunities and preparation for the top graduate engineering programs in the country.

i live two seconds away from the swarthmore campus and its great. the atmosphere is one of a kind and the engineering program is great! i also like the freedom in the curriculum and the opportunities it gives to its students.

northwestern--did a summer program there. evanston and chicago are awesome cities. also mccormick has state-of-the-art facilities and performs a ton of research.

thanks for you information. Where have you decided to go? Cheers~!
