I am a new admit, and if I go there I would like to swim in some capacity. How is Williams about having a student walk on the team? Most D3 schools have an "open door" policy, but wondering if this applies to Williams also? Any info on this would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yes, of course.

Coach Kuster is amazing. Go speak with him at the pool on Admitted Student day. I am sure he will be happy to see you. The team is wonderful, they are very tight-knit-- they work hard and care about each other. (With your screen name I trust you are a miler?)

I as a parent am particularly pleased that he sees his first responsibility to teach about life and to teach swimming second.

Best of luck. I hope we will be cheering you on as an Eph next year.

@etondad - Thank you so much for your response and advice. Yes, I swim the longer distances (500, 1000, Mile), but I can hold my own in the 200 free as well. I will follow your advice and talk to Coach Kuster. Williams is at the top of my list, so this is great news to hear!

men’s or women’s team?

I know women’s team better and Sarah Thompson is great in the mile but we are losing the fantastic Caroline Wilson-- who will be tough to replace esp in events such as the 500.

The girls came in 4th at NCAAs and the boys 8th (tough meet for the guys as a whole bunch of them were sick). Ephs are graduating a tremendous senior class in both teams and need to re-arm!

The men’s team. I am currently on a pretty good team and swim 7,500 - 9,000 yds a day and will be doing long course season and training daily over the summer. I am not blistering fast yet (just joined the team 18 months ago - a bit crazy joining a swim team at 16, but I did it). I do have times similar to several Eph swimmers already - albeit not the super fast ones, but I am there. I also keep up with our top swimmers in training (several Div 1 people), so I am sure I can train with the Eph team and keep right up. I would not make the squad that goes to conference in my first year, but I definitely see getting there by junior year. Your daughter sounds great; I look forward to meeting her if I go to Williams. Your suggestion is taken, and I will contact Coach Kuster about meeting him. Again, thanks so much for putting a personal touch on Williams before I even visit!

Great! Welcome to Williams. I hope you decide to come! You will have a wonderful four years.

I was wondering about walk-ons as well.

There was at least one walk on in the women’s team this year and I am not sure about the men’s team but I wouldn’t be surprised.
