Swimming (men's) at Bucknell?

What’s it like? How are the coaches? Being on the team? Facilities? Schedule? Is the team competitive within the league? How does it integrate with student life, studies, etc.? All you can tell re swimming at Bucknell and academics and student life there in general, please!

I am very familiar with the team, as my child swims at Bucknell. I have high regard for the program.

The coaches are generally well-liked and the facilities are among the nicest you’ll see anywhere. Many of the swimmers major in biology or engineering, which tells you that it is possible to balance difficult academics with swimming, if you are a strong student. Their combined team GPAs exceed 3.0 consistently.

I believe that the men finished second in the Patriot League conference this year. It is a team that is constantly improving. Practices are rigorous, but the kids are treated well. The swimmers are serious about their sport, but do spend a lot of time socializing together.

I think Bucknell is a terrific place, but you have to visit for yourself to see if you feel the “fit.” The campus is beautiful. Though it is in a remote location, there is a small town within easy walking distance for pizza, movies, etc. I think the remote location actually promotes strong school spirit, as the kids need to rely on themselves more for entertainment. I have been impressed with the number and quality of speakers and concert musicians they bring to campus. There is plenty to do on weekends.

The school is very, very Greek. Some of the swimmers belong to fraternities, some don’t. Students pledge in sophomore year.
